Spent $300 on a data broker opt-out service... got maybe $5 worth of peace of mind

Are you really sure that $300 didn't save you a whole lot more than that in headaches down the road? Once your info is out there on those people search sites it gets scraped and sold over and over by smaller brokers you never heard of. A one time cleanup might not fix the problem, but paying a service to constantly scrub it keeps you from getting those random spam calls and phishing emails that cost way more than five bucks in wasted time.

Cost way more than five bucks in wasted time" though? I mean, maybe if you're getting 50 spam calls a day it's worth it, but I've been deleting those "your car warranty" emails for years without paying a dime. Seems like a lot of money just to avoid hitting the delete button a few extra times.

Michael from a year ago spent $300 and says his spam calls dropped 80%. But @michael_green44, how do you really know that was the service and not just the robocall blocking tools your phone already has? I've been getting the same "your car warranty" calls for years and never paid a dime for cleanup. Most of those smaller brokers just pull data from public records and social media, not from those people search sites. The phishing emails are usually from your email getting leaked in a breach, not from a people search site anyway.
