A deepfake of my brother telling a childhood story shook our family
We used to swap old VHS tapes and laugh at real memories. Now, my niece made a clip of my brother admitting to a prank he never did. It looked so real that our parents believed it for a second. That moment showed me how deepfakes can twist even simple family jokes.

Totally get what you mean, it's wild how even simple tech jokes can backfire with family. My uncle tried one of those voice changer apps as a gag call, pretending to be a radio contest host telling my aunt she won a cruise. She was halfway through giving her credit card info for "port fees" before he cracked up laughing. Now she doesn't trust any unknown calls, which is probably smart, but it started as just a dumb joke. Makes you realize how thin the line between funny and upsetting can be, right?

Wouldn't they ask for booking fees, not port fees?

Man, I saw this article about those deepfake celebrity clips that go viral. People think they're hilarious until you realize how easily someone could make fake video of a regular person. It starts as a joke but ends up making everyone question what's real.

Ugh, that's creepy. My friend once used an app to blur all our faces in a group photo before sending it to the family group chat as a "joke." It took everyone a solid minute to figure out why we all looked so weird, and his grandma got really upset. It's just playing with a different kind of fake, I guess.
