Caught my aunt's face in a deepfake ad for a tea she never drank
I was scrolling Facebook at my kitchen table in Denver and saw a video of my aunt promoting some detox tea. She's been gone 5 years now, and it looked just like her talking. I reported it but the platform did nothing, so I called her daughter and we had to post a warning to the whole family group chat. Has anyone else had to deal with a dead relative being used like that?

Man that's rough. It's bad enough when companies use a living person's face without permission, but a dead relative? Feels like there should be some automatic rules against using someone's likeness after they pass.

You gotta screenshot EVERYTHING and file a report with the FTC's deepfake complaint system, that's what worked for me. Also contact the platform's legal department directly instead of just using the regular report button, they actually have to respond to legal requests. And seriously look into companies like DeleteMe or BrandYourself that scrub this stuff for you, because the sites hosting these ads won't take it down without a fight.
