I finally caught my dad falling for a deepfake video of our mayor
He shared it in the family group chat last Tuesday, swearing the mayor said taxes were getting cut by 15 percent. I had to show him the weird lip movements and blurry edges before he believed me. Has anyone else had to fact-check their own parents on this stuff?

My dad swore up and down it was real... kept saying "the mayor's mouth moves exactly like that in real life." I had to zoom in on the video and point out how the teeth didn't match up with the words coming out. The lip sync was off by like a full half second in some spots too. It's wild how good these things are getting but also how easy it is to spot if you know what to look for.

Haha @cameronp47 honestly I think dads just double down on stuff like that because they hate being wrong. But yeah the teeth thing is the dead giveaway every time, you can't fake those little texture details yet. It's creepy how good the voice cloning is though, like my buddy sent me one where the mayor's voice was spot on but the cadence was totally off. Lip sync errors are still the easiest tell for now but give it another year and we're all gonna be lost.
