I just spent $300 on a deepfake detection tool and it was a total waste

I was so sure I needed it after seeing a fake video of a local politician that looked real. The tool promised to scan any video and give a confidence score. I ran a bunch of clips through it, including some I knew were real, and the results were all over the place. It flagged a real news clip from 2020 as 'highly suspect' and missed a clear deepfake my friend made as a joke. Now I'm out the cash and more confused than ever about what's real online. Has anyone found a detection method that actually works, or are we all just guessing now?

Maybe your test clips just weren't a good match for the tool's training data?

My gut has been right more often than any fancy tool, @sanchez.mary. The data just never seems to match real life. I'm totally with you on trusting that feeling.
