Just saw a deepfake of a politician saying something they never said

I was scrolling Twitter last night and found a video of our mayor endorsing a new tax plan that I know for a fact they opposed in a town hall 3 weeks ago. Turns out it was a deepfake someone made with free AI software, and it already has 50,000 views with most people believing it's real. How do we even trust any video evidence anymore when anyone can make a fake like this in 10 minutes?

50,000 views already spreading that lie is just terrifying. I feel sick knowing anyone with a laptop can wreck someone's reputation that fast.

Spreading that lie is just terrifying" hits different when I realize my last viral post was a blurry photo of my cat that people thought was a possum. Guess we're all one wrong caption away from becoming internet villains. At least my reputation is so boring it'd probably survive a smear campaign.
