My aunt's old VHS tapes got me doubting every random clip now

We cleaned out her basement last week and found tapes from 1998 of our family reunion. I watched one and almost swore my cousin was there, but he never showed up that year. Now I can't even trust old home movies, has anyone else started double-checking family footage since deepfakes got good?

How do you confuse a cousin for someone else in a 1998 home video? That's not a deepfake problem, that's a memory problem. People mix up old events all the time, that's just how your brain works after 25 years. Deepfakes are real but nobody was faking your family reunion tapes from a basement. You probably just forgot he came, or you're thinking of a different year.
