My buddy sent me a fake video of our old coach last week and I totally fell for it

It was a clip of him supposedly announcing a reunion game. The voice and face looked perfect, even the background was our old gym. I got excited and texted three people before my buddy called laughing. He used some free app and made it in like 20 minutes. It's wild how easy it is to make something that feels so real now. Makes you second guess every video link you get sent. Anyone else have a friend pull a deepfake prank that actually worked?

Jumped right into a deepfake hole the other day myself, actually. @jessica707 mentioned politics, and that's the part that gets me - I saw this ad for a product the other day that had a fake celebrity endorsement, and it looked so smooth I almost bought it before I realized the guy never actually did commercials. Now I'm double-checking everything, even those urgent texts supposedly from my bank asking about suspicious activity. It's like the whole world is one big trust test now and we're all failing it.

That's a solid prank, honestly. The free tools are getting way too good. Makes you wonder what you've already believed without knowing.

Wow, that's honestly scary how convincing that sounds! I was just reading an article about how these fakes are everywhere now, even in politics. @the_paul is right, the tools are way too easy to get, and it's getting hard to trust anything. I haven't been pranked like that yet, but I'd probably fall for it too. Makes me want to just stop clicking on videos from friends.

Am I the only one who'd probably fall for my own deepfake?
