My cousin made a deepfake of our grandpa giving a speech and it got weird
We were at a family reunion in Cleveland last month, and my cousin Dave showed us a video he made. It was our grandpa, who passed away 5 years ago, giving a toast about the family. The voice was perfect, but the mouth moved like a bad puppet. My aunt started crying, my uncle got mad and called it creepy, and Dave just stood there looking confused. It totally killed the mood for like an hour. Has anyone else had a family moment ruined by a weird deepfake attempt?

Honestly, Dave was just trying something nice... the tech is new and clunky, but his heart was in the right place. People get too hung up on the weird details instead of the feeling behind it. It's a shame that good intent got lost over some bad lip sync.

Yeah I saw an article about that, cole549, and you're right.

We had something similar happen, and what saved it was just focusing on the memory. We all started telling our favorite stories about my grandma, and the weird video just became the thing that got us talking. The tech doesn't matter as much as what it makes you remember.
