My cousin sent me a deepfake of our grandma saying she sold the house. It was too real.
I was just scrolling last night and my cousin sends me this video of our grandma talking about putting the house on the market. She sounded exactly like her, even had the little pause she does before saying 'well.' My heart legit stopped for a second until he admitted it was fake. It made me realize how easy it is to make someone believe anything now. Has anyone else had a family member pull something like this just to mess with you?

Honestly I used to roll my eyes at people freaking out about deepfakes. Thought it was just paranoid tech doomer stuff lol. But then my buddy sent me a fake voicemail of his wife saying she was leaving him and I straight up believed it for a solid minute. That kind of messed me up. Your grandma thing is way worse though, that's a whole new level of messed up family prank.

Jesus, your cousin sounds like a real piece of work for that.

Gotta say, recording someone without their knowledge is a fast track to losing all trust, and that can take years to rebuild if it ever does. One thing that helped in a similar situation I dealt with was a total media blackout for a while, no calls, no texts, nothing that could be twisted into a "gotcha" moment. It's a harsh reset but sometimes you gotta draw a hard line like that to protect your own peace.
