My deepfake spotting video got 10,000 views in a week
I made a short video breaking down a fake clip of a local mayor. I just pointed out the bad lip sync and the weird ear shadow. Posted it on a Tuesday, and by the next Monday it had over 10k views. It matters because a bunch of comments said they would have believed it without my breakdown. How do you even start to trust a video now?

That's wild it got that many views. Did you get any weird pushback from people who still wanted to believe the fake video?

Actually saw a lot of that pushback. Some folks just dig their heels in even when the facts are right there. It's like they're more attached to the story than the truth. Makes the whole thing even more frustrating to watch.

Got a buddy who does fact-checking on the side, he told me about one specific case that stuck with him. He put out a video showing the timestamp mismatch in the original upload and some guy commented like 12 times trying to argue that the timestamps were "timezone glitched" or some nonsense. My friend @bettym11 actually stepped in and showed the guy the exact frame-by-frame breakdown, but the dude just kept shifting his argument every time, first saying it was a deepfake, then saying the timestamps didn't matter anyway. It was honestly exhausting to watch from the sidelines because the guy clearly just wanted the fake story to be true. My buddy finally just stopped responding and the guy went and left a thumbs down on every single one of his videos. People get weirdly attached to believing the wrong thing, especially when it makes them feel like they discovered something nobody else knows.
