My nephew's AI video made me question a family memory

My nephew showed me a video last weekend of our family trip to the Grand Canyon in 2018. I was sure we never went there, I remember we went to Yellowstone that year. He walked me through how he made it using old photos and a deepfake app on his phone. It was so convincing I almost believed it myself for a minute. Has anyone else had a deepfake mess with a memory you thought was solid?

Man that's wild. I had something similar happen when my cousin showed me an old video of us at a baseball game I swore we never went to. It really messes with your head when technology can just rewrite what you remember.

Huh yeah I used to be one of those people who was like "eh, who cares about AI photos?" but then my sister showed me a video of me at a family reunion I have zero memory of. It had me in the background talking to my uncle who passed away a few years back. I felt sick for days after seeing it because I could swear I was at work that day. Really made me realize how slippery memory is once tech starts messing with it.

I mean, is it really that big of a deal though? Our brains already mess up memories all the time without any help from technology. I forget stuff from last week, let alone years ago.
