Paid $50 for a deepfake detection app that was just a fancy timer

I downloaded it after seeing a political video that felt off, but the app just ran a clock and then said 'inconclusive' every time... Anyone else find a tool that actually works for spotting fakes?

$50 for a timer is brutal. I paid $35 for one called RealCheck last month and it just kept saying "analyzing" for 20 minutes. The tech isn't there yet for consumers. Even the free ones online are just guessing half the time. The best I've found is just looking at the hands weirdly. Most fakes mess up fingers or reflections.

If the hands look off on a fake, the lighting usually is wrong too. I've messed around with some of those knockoffs that come from overseas and the shadows just don't match up with any light source in the picture. It's like they're in a totally different room than the rest of the image... something about the way the glare hits the face of the watch always gives it away for me.

@the_piper nailed it honestly. I got scammed on a "vintage" Omega once and what gave it away was the lume on the hands was totally flat, no depth at all. The seller tried to argue sun damage but the shadows were all wrong too. Best tell for me is if the second hand doesn't sweep smooth, that's the easiest way to spot a fake.
