Rant: My buddy's 'deepfake' of me giving a speech at his wedding almost got me in real trouble

He used an app to make it look like I was confessing to pranking the groom, and half the guests believed it for a solid 20 minutes before we showed the original footage. Anyone else have a joke deepfake backfire on them?

Honestly, always keep the original video ready to show.

Actually, the original file is what you need to keep. The video itself will get compressed when you upload it.

Keeping the original file is smart, but @margaretramirez is right that compression can change it. The real trick is having a copy that hasn't been edited at all, straight from the camera. That's the only way to really prove what's real.
