That deepfake of the politician last week made me choose between believing my eyes or the facts
I watched a clip of a mayor saying something awful at a town hall in Ohio, and it looked so real even their hand gestures matched. But turned out it was faked by a local activist group, and now I don't know what to trust when I see videos online. Has anyone else had that moment where you just freeze and can't decide what's true?
The best thing I did was start keeping a simple list of things I was sure about and checking them later. Turns out a lot of what I thought was real was just stuff I'd heard enough times to believe. It's humbling, but it helps you spot the pattern before it fools you again.
Three weeks ago I swore I'd seen a news story about a product recall. Went to fact check it later and found nothing, not even a trace. That's when I realized my brain just fills in blanks with stuff that sounds familiar. The scary part is knowing I'll never catch most of it.
