Watching my cousin's face on a fake news clip was a gut punch

It took me a full 48 hours to convince our family group chat it wasn't real, even after I found the original video from a 2019 concert. How do you even start to prove something didn't happen?

Honestly, I'd question why you're so sure it's fake. Maybe your cousin was at that concert but the news clip is about something else that really did happen later. Finding an old video doesn't prove a newer event is impossible. Sometimes family is the last to know what someone's really involved in. You might be dismissing real evidence because it's upsetting.

I saw this happen with my neighbor last year. He swore his brother was out of town, but security footage showed him at a protest downtown. People get stuck on one detail and miss the bigger picture.
