Dropped $500 on a scraped data set for my Detroit startup and it was garbage

I paid $500 for a list of local small business contacts off some random data broker site last month. Every single email bounced, and half the phone numbers were wrong. Has anyone else wasted money on bad data, or is there a legit source for Detroit leads?
