Just blew $2k on a downtown Detroit co-working space that was basically empty

Signed up for a 6-month membership at 'The Grid' on Woodward last month, thinking it would be good for networking. I've been in maybe ten times and have seen a total of three other people, and the promised 'member mixers' never happened. It's a total ghost town, which kills the whole point of paying for a shared space. Anyone know a spot in Midtown or Corktown that actually has some energy and people to talk to?

Did they even try to get people in the door, or did they just take your money and run? A space like that needs events to build a community from scratch. You're basically paying to sit in a fancy empty room.

Actually @ryanm60, they did try some events early on, like a few open mic nights and a board game meetup. I mean, the turnout was just super low each time, maybe a dozen people. It felt like they gave up on that part way too fast though, so you're right about needing to build from scratch.

Forget events, start with a killer coffee machine.
