Saw something weird at the Eastern Market coworking space yesterday

I was working out of that new shared space on Russell Street near Eastern Market, the one with the big garage doors. And I noticed like half the people there were doing video calls with these super bright ring lights right in their faces. Not just a few people, I counted 8 out of 15 desks had them set up. It looked like a small film studio in there. Made me wonder if this is the new normal for remote work in Detroit, or if we're all just getting obsessed with looking perfect on camera. Has anyone else seen this at other coworking spots around town, or is it just this one place?

Wait, are ring lights the new status symbol now?

Wait, is that what we're calling them now? I thought they were just the thing everyone bought for Zoom calls and then got embarrassed about when guests came over. My cousin has three of them and still can't figure out why his face looks like a ghost. Status symbol status: more like a glow stick that screams "I bought this during quarantine.

8 out of 15 desks? That is wild. I've been to three different coworking spots in Corktown and Midtown over the last couple months and I maybe saw one ring light total. That Eastern Market place sounds like it's turning into a TikTok studio or something. People are really bringing their own studio lighting just to sit at a shared desk for the afternoon?
