Spent 3 hours tracking down a wiring issue that was just a loose ground screw
I was troubleshooting a motor on a CNC router at a shop near Eastern Market and kept getting intermittent faults. After replacing a drive and checking all the connections, it was a single ground screw that had worked loose over time. Has anyone else wasted way too long on something this simple?

I read this thing from an engineering blog that said loose grounds are responsible for like 40% of weird electronics faults, which honestly checks out. @paulw53 your keys comparison is spot on. I had a similar nightmare with a ShopBot last year - the spindle would randomly drop RPMs and I swapped out the VFD before noticing the ground lug on the motor housing was just hand tight. Three days of my life gone because someone didn't use a wrench lol.

Yeah that loose ground thing is brutal. I mean, it's always the simplest stuff that eats up the most time, right? Kind of like how you'll spend forever searching for your keys only to find them in your pocket.
