That coworking space downtown that I thought was a scam turned out to be worth it

I was super skeptical about WeWork type places in Detroit because I figured it was just overpriced desks. Back in March I needed a spot to meet a client from out of town and my home office was a mess. I paid $35 for a day pass at that new place on Woodward and honestly thought I'd hate it. But the wifi was solid, the coffee was free, and the client was impressed by the conference room. I ended up getting a second contract out of that meeting which covered the cost for months. Now I use it once a week for $150 a month and it's been a game changer for my little consulting biz. Anyone else find something in Detroit they were wrong about?

The wifi being faster than home is definitely not the norm around here, from my experience. I get that you landed a big catering gig from it, but $35 for a day pass still feels steep to me when you could've just grabbed a booth at a diner for the price of a coffee. Maybe I'm just old school about it, but I don't see how a shared space unlocks something you couldn't get from a quiet corner at a library.

Wait, hold on. You said you paid $35 for a day pass and got a whole second contract out of it? That's not just wild, that's practically a miracle around here. I gotta ask, was the wifi actually that good, or did you just get lucky? Because around my neck of the woods, you're lucky if the coffee shop wifi doesn't kick you off every 20 minutes. I still can't get over the price tag for a day pass, but I guess if it paid for itself that fast, who's really the sucker here?

You paid $35 for a day pass and got a whole second contract out of it? That's wild. I had the exact same thing happen with a shared kitchen space over in Corktown, figured it was gonna be a total waste but ended up landing a catering gig that paid for a whole year of membership. The wifi there was actually faster than my home connection too, which I was not expecting at all.
