Blew a head gasket on an old 5.9 Cummins last week...

Had a 1995 5.9 in a dodge that I was rebuilding for a guy near Albany. Got it all torqued down, fired it up, and coolant started pouring out the side. Turns out I reused the old head bolts instead of getting new ones... saved maybe 40 bucks but cost me a whole weekend tearing it back apart. Anyone else ever cheap out on hardware and regret it?

That 40 bucks cost you a whole weekend, rough break.

Did you end up getting the 40 bucks back at least? @taraross I totally feel you, last month I tried to fix a leaky sink myself and ended up making it worse, had to call a plumber on Sunday and it cost me double what I saved.

Damn @vera195, I did the same thing with wrist pins on a 12 valve rebuild. Cost me an engine.
