DAE get a bad vibe when mechanics suggest skipping emission checks?
I took my old diesel van in for service last week. The guy at the shop said he could 'forget' to run the emission test to save me time and cash. Part of me wanted to say yes, but what if it causes problems later? How do you guys handle stuff like that when money's tight?

Why take the chance if it'll cost more later?

Tried that shortcut once with my old truck. Convinced myself a little extra smoke never hurt anyone until my annual inspection rolled around. Failed so hard they almost made me push it home. My wallet still remembers that lesson better than I do.

My buddy Jake had this beat-up sedan he swore was fine until inspection day. The mechanic found a huge hole in the muffler, and the car was blowing black smoke like a freight train. He had to pay for a whole new exhaust system, which cleaned out his savings, lol. That story totally echoes what @simon_young46 went through with his truck. Always seems like those shortcuts come back to bite you when you least expect it.
