I spent a whole afternoon chasing a phantom oil leak on a 6.7 Powerstroke
It was on a 2015 F-250 from a farm up near Billings. I was convinced it was the turbo oil drain line, so I pulled the whole cab to get at it, which is a solid 4 hour job. Turns out the leak was just a loose oil filter cap from the last quick-lube place, costing the customer over $600 in labor for nothing. Anyone have a good system for checking the simple stuff first on these newer rigs?

Man, that's a tough lesson to learn the hard way. My shop started using a simple checklist for every oil leak that starts at the filter and drain plug before anything gets touched. It saves so much time and avoids those embarrassing callbacks.

Exactly, that checklist idea is so smart... it's like you're forcing yourself to slow down and look at the obvious stuff first. We added a quick torque check with a wrench on those spots to the list, because sometimes the plug or filter is just a quarter-turn loose from the last guy. It turns a big leak scare into a two-minute fix almost every time.

But honestly, how many leaks are actually that bad? Like ivan_murphy80's checklist is fine, but most times it's just a weep from a sensor or a loose cap. People jump straight to the worst case before even wiping the area down.
