Lost $180 on a used injector puller that was junk

Bought a used injector puller off a guy in Denver last month for $180, thought I was getting a deal. Turns out the threads were stripped and it snapped on the first 6.0 I tried it on, wasted a whole Saturday and had to borrow a shop's tool anyway. Anyone else get burned buying used specialty tools instead of just renting from the parts house?

Man, $180 is steep but that's the gamble you take buying used. I've bought three used pullers over the years and only one was actually worth the cash. The other two were cheap craftsman units that flexed worse than a wet noodle. Renting from the parts store sounds good until you're stuck returning it on a Monday morning with a core charge hold on your card for three weeks because the guy behind the counter forgot to close the ticket. Plus that rental tool has been hammered on by a hundred other guys who didn't care about it, so you're just trading one risk for another.
