Pro tip: Don't spend $800 on a rebuilt injector pump like I did
Everyone says to go reman on these Bosch pumps for a 7.3, but I got burned bad. Had it die on me 3 months in, no warranty support from the shop who sold it. Should have just sent mine out for a bench rebuild for half the cost. Anyone else have better luck with local rebuilders?

Mine lasted 8 years from a local diesel shop.

Yeah but 8 years from a local shop isn't really that wild when you think about it. My cousin's uncle got 10 years out of a cheap reman from Autozone and it was still running fine when he traded the truck in. I feel like people act like these engines are ticking time bombs when they hit 150k miles but honestly they'll just chug along forever if you don't beat on them and change the oil. I've seen guys freak out over a little blow-by that's totally normal on a diesel with some age on it. Like is it really that serious or are we just looking for something to worry about?

You're forgetting about how the shop builds them. Most places just slap on new bearings and rings without checking if the block is even straight anymore. One guy I know had a local shop build him a 7.3 that started walking the mains at 60k miles. They didn't deck the block right and it was warped from the factory. A good builder will measure everything to a tenth of a thou, but most just clean it up and call it good. That's where the difference is between a 150k mile motor and one that chugs forever. It's the boring stuff nobody wants to pay for.
