Retrofit injectors on a 7.3 - was totally wrong about them

I ran cheap reman injectors in my '97 F-250 for about 8 months and they were straight garbage, rough idle and no power. Finally bit the bullet on a set of Alliant Power injectors from a shop in Denver and the truck runs like a whole different animal. Anyone else get burned by going the budget route on injectors or am I just unlucky?

Wait, did you actually verify those "remanufactured" injectors were built with OEM parts or just some eBay rebuilds? A lot of the budget injectors out there use Chinese solenoids and cheap o-rings that fail fast, which is probably what you ran into. The Alliant Power ones are made to Ford specs so they're not really apples to apples with the cheap stuff. I've seen guys swear by the budget route because they got lucky, but most people end up swapping them out within a year like you did. The 7.3 is picky about injectors and the cheap remans just don't have the same quality control. Your experience is pretty common actually, lots of folks learn that lesson the hard way on these trucks.

Flip the whole thing around and ask yourself if a lot of these "OEM spec" failures aren't actually from bad fuel. I ran cheap remans for two years no problem, then switched to a new station and had a set die in six months. The water separator never showed a thing. People blame injectors all day long but don't check their fuel tank for rust or algae. Who's actually dropping their tank and looking at the screens, or testing fuel samples? The 7.3 will kill good injectors just as fast as bad ones if your fuel system is dirty.
