Chose a tablet over a bigger monitor for my portfolio review
I had to pick between upgrading to a 27 inch monitor or getting a drawing tablet before my first portfolio review at a local gallery. I went with the tablet, a used Wacom Intuos, because I felt like my line work needed more direct control. It took about a week to get used to looking at the screen while drawing on the pad, but my sketches got way cleaner. The reviewer at the gallery even commented on the improved draftsmanship in my character pieces. Has anyone else made a similar trade off between hardware upgrades for showcasing their art?

The real win here is that tablet forces you to slow down and think about each stroke, which is something a bigger monitor never would have taught you before a review. Plus, that skill carries over no matter what setup you end up with later.
