I finally get why process videos are a big deal in digital art showcases
I always thought sharing how you made a piece was just extra fluff, to be honest. In my experience, it felt like artists were trying too hard to look good. But then I saw a showcase where someone showed their layers merging for a sky effect. Your mileage may vary, but watching that made the whole thing way easier to copy for my own work. Take this with a grain of salt, but now I see it's not about showing off, it's about teaching tricks. I started adding short clips to my posts, and folks say it helps them learn. That shift in thinking really changed how I share my art online.

My process video would just be me staring at layers in confusion.

When you said seeing the messy middle is more helpful, that hit home. I always figured those slick process videos were complete bullshit. But @the_mary saying she'd just stare at layers in confusion made it click for me. Showing the stuck moments is what actually helps people learn, not some perfect flow. It's like admitting you don't have it all figured out, which is how real work gets done. Now I see those clean videos and just laugh, because they're missing the point entirely.

I used to want perfect process videos but the messy middle actually helps.

Ugh i used to think those super clean process videos were totally fake. Like nobody actually works that way from start to finish. But @the_mary saying hers would just be confused staring honestly changed my mind. I mean it makes those videos feel more real, you know? Maybe it's just me but seeing the messy middle part is way more helpful. Idk it just made me realize showing the confusion is the whole point.
