I pitted my iPad Pro against a $30 drawing tablet and the cheap one shocked me

I've been doing digital art for about 6 months now and kept wondering if my iPad was really worth the hype for drawing. So last week I grabbed a cheap Huion tablet from Amazon for $30 just to see how bad it really was. Turns out the Huion felt way more natural for line work and I ended up finishing a whole character sketch on it before I even touched my iPad again. Has anyone else found that spending less actually gave them a better drawing experience?

Bought a used Wacom Intuos for like $40 a few years ago and it still works better for me than the fancy display tablets my friends have. Something about the matte surface and the pen grip just clicks with my hand, ya know? I think the price tag on tech stuff messes with our heads sometimes. If it feels good and gets the job done, that's all that matters no matter what you paid for it.

@hannah320 yes same phone, i still use my old intuos from 2015, best $50 i ever spent.

That thing about "the price tag on tech stuff messes with our heads" really hit home. My buddy Tom spent over a thousand on a Cintiq for his freelance work and was so mad when he borrowed my old Intuos for a weekend trip and ended up liking the feel better for sketching. He told me he actually finished more drawings on the cheap tablet because he wasn't scared to mess up or waste expensive screen real estate. Now he uses the Intuos for rough drafts and only breaks out the Cintiq for final polish work.
