Serious question, has anyone else used a screenshot of a glitched UI as a texture base?

I was trying to paint some sci-fi paneling and got frustrated with my flat colors, so I just took a screenshot of my corrupted graphics driver error message, set it to overlay, and it gave the perfect grimy, digital decay look. My partner walked by and said 'that just looks like your computer is broken again'. Is this a legitimate technique or am I just creatively lazy?

Totally did that with a corrupted photo file once (worked great).

Call that creatively lazy and a total shortcut. Real texture work needs actual skill and effort, not just slapping a glitch on a layer. Your partner is right to call it out.

That 2018 project I did trying to fake a weathered metal texture with a glitch filter taught me the hard way. It looked cool for about five seconds but totally fell apart when you zoomed in. After spending three days rebuilding it by hand with actual layer masks and brush work, it looked way better. So I get what you mean @ryanc57. Sometimes the shortcut just makes you realize why the hard way exists.

Real texture work" sounds a bit intense for a glitch.
