Spent 2 hours on a layer mask that did nothing

I was trying to isolate a character from a busy background in Procreate and thought I had the brush settings perfect. Turns out I was painting on a completely empty layer below the mask the whole time. Anyone else accidentally work on the wrong layer for way too long before noticing?

Classic move. Paint on the wrong layer for an hour, then rage quit.

Oh man, I once spent a whole afternoon painting on a layer I'd hidden and was furious until I realized I had it set to a blend mode that made everything invisible. Felt like such a moron.

Did you try locking the other layers first? That single trick saved me so many headaches once I got used to doing it. Now I just lock everything I'm not actively working on and it's way easier to focus on the right spot.
