Why does every portfolio showcase have to be a scrolling wall of endless art?
I spent 2 hours last night browsing a digital art showcase thread and my eyes glazed over by the 10th image. Everyone just dumps 50 pieces with no captions, no context, no order. I get it, you did a fan art series or a character sheet set, but I want to know what you learned or what you tried differently. I made my own post last month with just 7 pieces and a short note on each about the brush or layer trick I used, and I got way more real feedback than any giant dump. Why do people think quantity beats clarity in these showcases? Has anyone else found that a smaller, focused set works better for actual critique?

The part about wanting context on what they tried differently really hit home. I think a lot of folks treat these showcases like a gallery wall where you just hang everything you got, but that kills the point of getting useful critique. If you put up fifty pieces with no notes, nobody knows where you struggled or what you want feedback on, so they just scroll past. My last dump had maybe twelve pieces, but I labeled the three that were new techniques I was testing, and that's where all the good comments landed. You're spot on that smaller sets with some explanation get way better responses, it's just harder to do because it means editing yourself.
