Finally stopped deleting comments just because they got downvoted
I used to panic and remove any post that hit -3 or worse, especially in local political threads. Then about 6 months ago I saw a guy in a Dallas zoning board discussion leave his comment up at -12 and actually change some minds by sticking with his argument. Now I only pull something if it's factually wrong or just mean. Has anyone else found a threshold where you just let it ride even when the downvotes pile up?

Downvoted takes often reveal the real fault lines in a community.

Totally agree with you here. I saw a cooking post get downvoted into oblivion just because someone said they like their steak well done, and the comment section turned into a war zone. It's wild how a simple unpopular opinion can expose the weird gatekeeping in a community.

...and then I left a comment up at -18 once about how I actually liked the new logo for a local brewery, figured I'd just take the hit and move on. Woke up next morning to a bunch of replies calling me a shill for Big Hops or whatever, but also a few people saying "okay you've got a point, the old one was kind of busier." I delete comments too quick still, especially when I'm drinking and get heated in arguments. It's like I'm training myself to not be such a coward about it. What's your personal "meltdown number" where you bail out?
