PSA: My work's video call recording policy feels like a new form of censorship.

We have to get approval before saving any meeting where someone shares a personal view. Isn't that just controlling what gets remembered?

Hold on, isn't that rule more about protecting people's privacy? It just stops private chats from getting saved forever.

Wait, they need approval to save a meeting where someone just shares an opinion? That's wild. Sounds less like privacy and more like they just don't want certain ideas on the record.

Yeah, that bit about not wanting certain ideas on the record is key. It's not really privacy, it's about keeping control. Picture a team meeting where someone asks why a project failed. That part might not get saved to avoid blame. Or a local club meeting where members question where funds are going. Those talks could be left out so the notes look good. Saying it's for privacy just makes it sound nice.

Totally agree with @robert_cooper, my last job had the same sketchy rule.
