TIL comparing Substack to Medium made me realize one is way better for writers who want real freedom

So I had posts on both platforms for about 6 months. Medium kept flagging my piece about local council meetings getting cancelled with no public notice. Said it violated their guidelines on something. Substack never touched it. That one experience made the choice pretty obvious. Has anyone else noticed one platform being way more hands off than the other?

Flagged my post about fixing a rat problem as "dangerous advice" on Medium.

lol harsh, i had a similar thing happen when i posted about using peppermint oil to keep mice out of my shed. ended up just sharing it in a private facebook group with no issues, way less hassle than fighting the algorithm. maybe try a more casual platform that doesn't have that kind of oversight for stuff like that.

Honestly Medium is way too strict about random stuff. They flagged my post about a neighborhood stray cat that kept having kittens because they said it was "animal negligence advice." Like, I was just asking if anyone knew a rescue that could help. Substack never cares about that kind of thing. The difference is night and day.
