Vent: That $40 VPN I bought after a DMCA notice was a total waste

I got a copyright warning from my ISP last month after downloading a public domain documentary torrent. Panicked and dropped $40 on a VPN without reading reviews. Turns out it logged my activity anyway and slowed my connection to dial-up speeds. I switched to a free trial of a different service and learned you really gotta check the privacy policy first. Anyone else get burned by a hyped up VPN?

VPNs don't really work like picking a bracket though. A dog could roll dice on a floor and still end up with a better VPN than some random person clicking whatever ad they saw first. Your friend's dog probably didn't have to sit through a million popups for "free" services that sell your data either.
