Chose a homestay over a coworking coliving space in Medellin and it actually worked out better

Everyone told me to book one of those digital nomad coliving spots in El Poblado with the fast WiFi and networking events. I went with a local family homestay in Envigado instead for $350 a month. Got way better Spanish practice from abuela yelling at me about my schedule and the internet was fine for Zoom calls. Anyone else skip the trendy spots and do something different?

My buddy Mike tried the whole coliving thing in Buenos Aires. Paid $800 for a bunk bed and a "community vibe" that was just people ignoring each other on laptops. He bailed after a week and found a room with an older couple in Palermo for half that. The WiFi was just as fast and he ate homemade empanadas every night while the coliving crowd was ordering Rappi.

Swap the fancy "coliving" for actual living with locals every time. Mike figured out the REAL deal in like two days.

Did @ward.kim's buddy Mike happen to mention if the old couple charged extra for the empanadas? That's a steal with wifi included, reminds me of when my neighbor rented a room in Rome and her landlord would leave fresh focaccia on the doorstep every morning.
