Coworking vs coffee shop for deep work, which actually wins?

I keep seeing people say coworking spaces are the only way to focus, but after trying a loud cafe in Bali last month I got 6 hours of solid coding done. Anyone else find the background buzz actually helps more than a silent room?

3 months at a quiet desk and I was getting maybe 2 hours of real work done, but a noisy coffee shop gave me that same 6 hour streak you mentioned. The background buzz works because it drowns out random silence and keeps your brain from overthinking every little thing. Same reason people run better with music or podcasts, sometimes you need a little noise to actually focus.

Same with me. Brown noise playlists work best for concentration.

Yeah that "drowns out random silence" part is spot on. Ive had the same thing where a quiet room makes me hyper aware of every tiny sound and my own breathing. With coffee shop noise my brain just locks in. What worked for me was scouting local spots around 2pm when the morning rush dies down but theres still enough chatter to get that buzz going without it being distracting.
