I finally chose co-living over a private Airbnb in Mexico City

Back in 2018 I was bouncing between hostels and cheap hotels, but last year I had to pick between a private Airbnb for $900 a month or a co-living spot for $600 in La Condesa. I went with the co-living because I figured I'd meet more people and save cash. Big mistake at first - the room was tiny and the WiFi dropped every 20 minutes. But after three months, I actually got used to the shared kitchen and started swapping tips with a guy from Brazil who ran a Shopify store. The social side beat the peace and quiet I thought I wanted. Now I'm wondering if any of you have tried co-living for longer than a few months and found it worth it for building connections?

Oh, I can relate to this so much. I did a co-living in Medellin for about four months in 2019, and the first two weeks I thought I made a huge error. The walls were thin and there was always someone on a video call. But after a while, I met a woman from Canada who taught me how to meal prep on a budget, and we still text each other every few weeks. The thing is, you end up with a little network of people who get what you're doing, which made the whole trip feel less lonely. I'd do it again in a heartbeat for the right price and location.
