I finally stopped booking apartments with those 'fast internet' claims after a month in Medellin
My last place said it had 100 Mbps, but the router was in the landlord's locked office three floors down, so I got maybe 5 on a good day. I lost a client call because the video kept freezing, and now I just ask for a speed test screenshot from inside the unit before I pay. What's the most specific thing you ask hosts to prove the internet is actually good?

Yeah that's rough. I like @alicecraig's idea, but honestly I just make them send a screenshot of a speedtest run from the exact room I'll be working in.

Ask them to stream a 4K cat video while screen sharing, that's the only real test.
