Just found out my Lisbon apartment's 'high speed' internet is actually 5mbps

Checked the router settings after my third video call froze today. The landlord swore it was fiber, but the contract fine print says 'up to' 5mbps (found it on page 8). How do you even check this stuff before booking a place?

Up to 5mbps" in the fine print is such a classic move. Reminds me of a friend who rented a place in Barcelona that advertised a "sun-drenched terrace." Turned out to be a concrete slab behind a taller building that got about 20 minutes of light at noon. You just have to ask for a photo of the actual router or speed test screenshot now, it's the only way.

Look, the fine print is there for a reason. Companies have to cover themselves because not every location can get the max speed. @the_christopher, your friend should have asked more questions about that terrace. It's on the renter to do their homework. Asking for a speed test for an apartment is overkill, most people just need email and social media anyway. This is just how advertising works, you always hope for the best case.

Exactly! My "luxury" balcony overlooked a dumpster.
