Lost my connection during a client call in Thailand

I was in Chiang Mai sipping coffee at a cafe, and boom, the WiFi died right as I was pitching a $500 project. Had to finish the whole thing on my phone's hotspot, which barely held up.

Have you thought about how the cafe itself might have a backup generator or a prepaid internet plan that cuts off at a certain data limit? Those are super common over there, lots of places only buy a set amount from the provider and when it runs out you're just dead in the water no warning. Could be worth asking the barista next time you set up shop if they have a data cap or if they split their connection between two routers. Also check if they have one of those little routers with an ethernet port you can plug into directly, that saved me once in a guesthouse in Pai when the WiFi was acting up.

Wait, prepaid internet plans that just cut off with zero warning? That's insane. I'd lose my mind if I was in the middle of something important.

Wait no warning at all? Like the barista doesn't even get a notification on her phone or something? That's wild, I'd be so mad if I was halfway through a Zoom call and poof, gone. I remember once I was at this tiny coffee shop in Krabi and the WiFi just died mid-order, turned out they bought 10GB from the local provider and when it ran out it just shut off like a light switch. The barista just shrugged at me and said "sorry, no more internet today" like it was no big deal. That's the kind of thing that would make me switch cafes real quick if I lived there.
