My buddy told me to skip the fancy gear and just get a local SIM card
Everyone online was pushing these expensive global data plans, but my friend Carlos, who's been doing this for years, said to just buy a local SIM in each country. I was in Lisbon last month and got a 30-day plan from MEO for 15 euros with way more data than my old roaming plan gave me in a week. It worked perfectly for all my video calls and saved me a ton. Anyone else find that the simplest tech advice ends up being the best?

Nodded along to @murray.cora's point about limits making you better because I used to be the opposite. I was that guy dropping cash on expensive cameras and lenses thinking it would fix my photos. Then I locked myself to one cheap lens for a month and actually learned to frame shots instead of relying on gear. Carlos with his local SIM trick taught me the same lesson all over again.

Fancy gear guys" used to be my goal. Then I realized my old, simple stuff took better pictures because I actually learned how to use it.

It's funny how a camera bag full of new gear can trick you into feeling like a pro. That shiny stuff is a distraction from the real work of learning light and composition. Mastery comes from limits, not from more buttons and menus. Sticking with one simple tool forces you to solve problems with your own eyes and brain.
