Overheard a guy in a Lisbon cafe say he's been in the same spot for 8 months
He was telling his friend he stopped moving every few weeks because he felt more like a tourist than someone living anywhere. I mean, idk, I always thought the whole point was to keep moving, but maybe staying put for a season is better for getting real work done. Has anyone else tried planting roots in one city for half a year or more?

Wasn't there a whole blog post a while back about slow travel? The idea was that staying in one place lets you find a favorite coffee shop and actually unpack your bag... It sounds way less stressful than always planning the next bus or flight. I tried staying in Mexico City for four months once and got so much more writing done than when I was moving every week. You start to feel like you belong a little, even if it's just for a season.

Totally agree with @the_sam, that deeper local vibe beats rushing around.

My aunt did something similar in Lisbon... she rented a tiny apartment for six weeks. By the end, the guy at the pastelaria knew her order and she had a whole routine down. It wasn't about seeing everything, just living somewhere else for a bit. She still talks about her morning walks to that same bench.
