Realized I was working from coffeeshop WiFi without a VPN for 6 months after getting a weird login alert from my bank.
It clicked when I saw a login attempt from a city I'd never even visited and suddenly remembered all those airport and hostel networks I'd been connecting to like an idiot... has anyone else had this wake-up call with their roaming setup?

And now I'm that paranoid guy who checks for skimmers on gas pumps because one time I found one and the guy at the counter looked at me like I was nuts. At least your wake up call was digital, mine involved a weird sticky residue on the card reader.

Honestly, this hits hard. Had the same wake-up call after my Netflix account logged in from Brazil when I'm in Ohio. Used to bounce between library WiFi and random cafe spots without a second thought. Now I just keep a VPN running 24/7 on my phone and laptop. Cheap lesson learned compared to what could've happened.

Yeah I just use a password manager now and never reuse the same password twice.
