Remember when a 'good wifi' review just meant the cafe had a router

Three years ago in Lisbon, I booked a place that said 'great wifi' and spent a week working from the floor next to the modem. Last month in Chiang Mai, I had to ask about upload speeds and backup power before I could even open my laptop. Last week, my call dropped in Medellin because the building's fiber line got cut by construction, and I had to sprint three blocks to a co-working space I'd already vetted. When did our basic need get so complicated? What's your weirdest wifi vetting story from this year?

My vetting got so bad I now ask for a screenshot of a speed test.

Remember my cousin had to do a video call walkthrough for a cabin rental last fall. She made the host point his phone camera at the router lights while she watched. @owens.anthony, your screenshot idea is way less awkward than that whole show. It's like we're all tech support now before we can even go on vacation.

What's worse than a screenshot? I had to do a video call test with the host this year... like a weird tech interview. @owens.anthony is onto something with asking for proof, but they can fake a screenshot easy. I made a guy walk around his apartment with his laptop open on camera. The signal died in the bathroom, so I knew not to book it. It's crazy we have to be detectives now for something that should just work.
