Serious question, how many of you still use your home bank for everything?
I used to just keep all my money in my old US bank account and pay the crazy fees every time I took cash out abroad. Last month in Lisbon, I got hit with a $12 fee for a $100 pull, which was the last straw. I opened a Wise account the next day and now I move money over in batches. The local card works everywhere and I save about $50 a month. Has anyone else found a better setup for daily spending in different countries?

That's wild, viola_lopez30. Honestly, I just stick with my big bank for everything. The fees are a pain, but I like having all my stuff in one place and their app is solid.

Wow, that last part about funding their vacation really got me.

Yeah, it's wild how these big banks just get away with this stuff. It's the same everywhere though - they bank on people being too lazy or scared to switch. I noticed the same pattern with my phone plan, my internet provider, even my gym membership. Everyone just accepts the annual price hikes and random fees because it's a hassle to change. Once you actually look at your statements and add up what you're paying for "convenience," it's pretty eye opening.

Oh man, that $12 fee is just your bank's way of saying they miss you. A lot. I finally switched to a local credit union with no foreign fees, but only after my old bank basically funded a small vacation for themselves with my "convenience" charges.
