Warning: My 'backup' internet plan in Medellin was a total joke

I got a local SIM with 10GB of data, thinking it would save me if the cafe wifi died. It worked fine for a week, then my main project file wouldn't upload during a client call. Turns out the plan throttled speeds to under 1 Mbps after 5GB, which I hit without noticing. What's a real backup plan that doesn't cost a ton?

Throttling after just 5GB is brutal, they basically sell you a full-speed plan that lasts a few days. You'd need to check your data constantly to avoid hitting that wall. Sean's idea about a second SIM from another company is probably the only real fix, even if it's annoying.

My buddy got burned by that too. He ended up getting a second SIM from a different carrier as a real backup.

Always read the fine print, that hidden throttle gets everyone.
