Had a clerk at Target in Austin ask why I was covering my phone camera with tape
I was buying electrical tape at the Target on South Lamar a few weeks ago and the cashier, maybe 19 years old, sees it and asks what I'm fixing. I said I just cover my laptop and phone cameras. She laughed and said 'who would want to watch me fold clothes or eat cereal.' But then she got quiet for a second and asked if people actually do that. I told her about the 2016 FBI director story where they had tape on their cameras. She looked at her own phone and I could see her thinking. Has anyone else had a young person act surprised you care about this stuff?

My uncle worked for the state government in the 90s and he showed me an old Polaroid of his office computer monitor with a sticky note covering the camera, which I guess was standard practice back then. He said the weird part wasn't the tape itself but how people forgot it was even there until someone asked about it. Kind of funny how something so normal to some people is completely foreign to others.

Didn't people just not care about privacy back then or what?
